Usyk reacts to Harlan's bronze medal at the 2024 Olympics
Former world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk was not surprised that fencer Olga Harlan won a medal at the 2024 Olympic Games. According to the boxer, our athletes demonstrate character in the face of a full-scale Russian invasion.
Usyk said this in an interview with the Associated Press news agency. The 37-year-old native of Simferopol emphasized that it is important for Ukraine to have as many awards as possible for our Olympians, as it reminds the world of our country and the Russian aggression.
"Harlan's bronze medal was my wish as well. And, of course, I assumed that Olga was one of those athletes who would bring a medal to Ukraine. We are in a state of war, but our athletes came anyway. They are fighting. We support all our Olympians who are here in Paris to represent our country. The more awards for us, the better," Usyk said.
He also added that he was looking forward to boxer Oleksandr Khyzhnyak's performance with particular interest. "He has unfinished business and a goal that he has set for himself, namely Olympic gold. Oleksandr is striving for it," the heavyweight said.
We would like to remind you that Harlan beat Choi Siben of Korea with a fantastic comeback and brought Ukraine its first medal at Paris 2024. After her success, the saber fencer broke down in tears and dedicated her victory to her native country.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Olga Harlan commented on winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games, which became her fifth in four Olympics in her career.
