"I'm not trying to mock": former world champion spoke humiliatingly about Usyk

Oleksandr ChekanovNews

Former world heavyweight champion Frank Bruno expressed confidence that Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) would not have achieved great results in the division during his time. The Briton, who fought from 1982 to 1996, noted that the Ukrainian would not have been able to cope with the top heavyweights.

Bruno said this in an interview with the iFL TV YouTube channel. He added that Usyk has achieved tremendous success nowadays, but it would be almost impossible for him to surpass the super heavyweights of the past, as they were real knockouts with a strong punch.

"I don't think in my era he would have gone as far as he has now, but in his era, he made great strides. I'm not trying to make fun when I say that, but I'm speaking from the heart about how things are going. In the old days, he would have faced a lot of heavyweights, really natural big guys," Bruno said.

Earlier, former world heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman expressed confidence that boxing fans do not fully realize Usyk's class.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian is due to return to the ring in the summer. It is planned that his opponent will be the British Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs), with whom he already fought in August last year. Back then, Oleksandr won by TKO in the ninth round, and Daniel scored a dirty punch below the belt.

Earlier it became known that Usyk could be stripped of his World Boxing Council (WBC) belt. Usyk himself said when he intends to retire. Oleksandr also said that he is preparing to hold the most unusual fight of his career.
