How to wash socks without chemicals to make them snow-white: add one natural remedy
Many people use bleach to wash white laundry, but it's unlikely to clean your socks because it won't work on protein stains like sweat, grease, and most traces of dirt.
Bleach will simply deepen the stain, causing the socks to turn a dirty yellow or gray. This will cause the fibers to wear down, so you'll probably get holes. Instead, you can use an effective natural remedy – lemon juice, writes OBOZ.UA.
It contains a natural substance called citric acid, which is acidic enough to dissolve common sock stains while being gentle on the fabric.
Not only does lemon juice have a moderate antibacterial effect, helping to disinfect clothes, but it can also naturally lighten them, so it's great to use for white socks.
How to use lemon juice to get rid of sock stains
All you have to do is pour 120 ml of lemon juice directly into the drum or detergent drawer of your washing machine.
For particularly difficult stains, apply freshly squeezed lemon juice directly to the stained area and sprinkle a pinch of salt on the socks. Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes.
Add the laundry detergent as usual and wash on a hot cycle. After washing, be sure to rinse the socks to remove excess lemon juice.
Then hang the socks to dry or place them in the tumble dryer.
