2024 Olympics: Ukraine awaits 'goodwill gesture' from Russia
Russia will surely turn the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris into a platform for propagandizing its narrative. At the same time, it cannot be ruled out that the aggressor country will make a "goodwill gesture" and boycott the competition itself, refusing to participate in neutral status and sign an anti-war declaration.
This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian Sports Minister Vadym Gutzeit in an interview with the Agence France-Presse news agency, France24.com reported. According to him, he believes that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will not allow the Russians to participate in the Paris Games because of their aggression against our country.
"If Russian athletes take part in the Olympic Games, Russian propagandists will try to turn this celebration of sport into a celebration of propaganda, as Hitler once did. I believe that the IOC will not allow the aggressors to do this. I also don't rule out that the Russians will make a "goodwill gesture" and say they won't go. The ball is now on the side of the IOC and the international sports federations. I believe that they will continue to stand on the right side of history and will not allow the aggressors to participate in the Games," Gutzeit said.
Earlier he named the condition under which Ukraine is ready to boycott the Olympics-2024. In addition, it became known about the creation of the IOC anti-Russian coalition of 35 countries.
We will remind, a year before the start of the Olympic Games-2024, July 26, the IOC did not send Russia and Belarus an invitation to the competition. In addition, the media revealed the IOC plans to admit Russians to the Games as a refugee team.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the president of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR) expressed a ridiculous opinion that the Games in Paris cannot carry the status of Olympic Games, and the real OI will be held in Moscow under the name of "Friendship Games", which ordered to organize dictator Vladimir Putin and where Ukraine was cynically invited.
