The world-famous Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg reacted to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station in Kherson region by Russian occupation forces, which led to an environmental disaster. She stated that Russia should be held responsible for this crime.

On her Twitter page, Thunberg said that on 8 June she had an online conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She said that the aggressor country of Russia is committing ecocide and must be held accountable for it.

"This ecocide, as a continuation of Russia's unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine, is another atrocity that leaves the world at a loss for words. Our eyes once again turn to Russia, which must answer for its crimes," she wrote.

During her conversation with the Ukrainian president, Thunberg expressed her condolences to the Ukrainian people and said that she lacked the words to describe what was happening.

"I want to express my condolences to all Ukrainians. There are not enough words to describe what is happening in Ukraine," Thunberg said.

In addition, the activist asked what could be done to help Ukraine and increase pressure on the relevant organisations.

Zelenskyy, for his part, said that he had talked to global environmental activists, opinion leaders and international experts about Russia's explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and the consequences of this disaster.

"Please spread the truth about this Russian ecocide. Please urge leaders, states and international organisations to act. It is no coincidence that one of the key points in our proposed formula for peace is to combat ecocide. Let's work together to make sure that there are no more ecocides," Zelenskyy called.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, new satellite photos have emerged showing the consequences of the dam explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by Russian war criminals. On the second day after the explosion, Hola Prystan, the Korabel district in Kherson and other areas where people used to live went underwater.
