Russian Povetkin found "the greatest world confrontation" for Usyk

Povetkin speaks about the Usyk–Beterbiev fight

Former interim world heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin expressed an absurd opinion that Artur Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs) will be the most difficult opponent for Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs). The Russian called the fight between his compatriot and the Ukrainian "the greatest world confrontation."

Povetkin voiced this opinion in a commentary to the propaganda news agency TASS. The former boxer did not specify how the 39-year-old Beterbiev, who is two weight classes below Usyk, can create problems for our super champion.

"Beterbiev could compete with Usyk. It's a matter of weight and arrangements. But it could potentially be a very big fight. It would be the biggest world confrontation," Povetkin said.

Earlier, American trainer Malik Scott emphasized that Beterbiev has no chance of winning a fight against Usyk. The Russian himself, who is shamefully hiding under the Canadian flag, has repeatedly expressed a desire to fight Oleksandr, but the last time he called this probability almost impossible.

The boxers have met several times at the amateur level. In 2007, at a tournament in Kaliningrad, the Russian won 12:10, and the Ukrainian took revenge in the quarterfinals of the 2011 World Cup and the 2012 Olympics with the same score of 17:13.

Because of these defeats, Beterbiev harbored a grudge against Usyk and accused him of cowardice. And after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he called Oleksandr sick because of his stance against the aggressors. The Russian also complained that many fans and experts accused him of being jealous of the Ukrainian super champion.

It should be noted that Usyk himself did not express a desire to fight Beterbiev, but has already recognized his next opponent after defeating Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) in a rematch.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, coach Nuripasha Talibov, who works with Artur Beterbiev, set a condition for Oleksandr Usyk to hold a fight between the boxers. Former champion Sergey Kovalev emphasized that the fight between the Russian and the Ukrainian is devoid of any meaning because of the obvious result in favor of our compatriot.
