Artur Asilbekovich Beterbiev is a Russian professional boxer.
Short biography of Artur Beterbiev
Artur Beterbiev was born in Dagestan, in Khasavyurt, on January 21, 1985.
His nationality is Chechen.
Beterbiev started to take up sports at an early age - at the age of eleven he joined the boxing section.
His first major competition was the World Youth Boxing Championship, which was held in 2001. There Beterbiev won a bronze medal.
In 2004 and 2005 Artur Beterbiev won third place at the Russian Boxing Championship. At the third attempt, in 2006, Beterbiev took a silver medal at this championship, and the next year he won the same title of silver medalist at the world championship.
He managed to get the absolute victory and gold medal at the World Championships only in 2009.
In addition, during his amateur career, Beterbiev won two gold medals at the European Championships in 2007 and 2009. Beterbiev also appeared at the 2008 Olympics, but managed to get only one-eighth of the final.
Then, moving up to heavyweight category, Beterbiev tried his luck at 2012 Olympics and made it to one quarter of the final, where he defeated Ukrainian Alexander Usik.
Since 2013, Beterbiev has been fighting in the professional boxing category.
