"I hate it": coach of Kadyrov's fan throws a tantrum over Ukrainian boxer's championship fight

Scully speaks about the fight between Gvozdyk and Benevides

The coach of Russian light heavyweight champion Artur Betrbiev (20-0, 20 KOs), John Scully, was outraged by the organization of the fight by Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) and American David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs). At stake in the fight will be the belt of the interim champion according to the World Boxing Council (WBC), which is held by a representative of the Russian Federation.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Scully called it crazy to hold such a fight, Championship.com informs. The coach of the Russian, who is now shamefully hiding under the flag of Canada and praising the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, refused to recognize the right of the winner of the Gvozdyk-Benavidez fight to call himself the WBC champion.

"To have one of these guys as interim champion is crazy. I hate this moment in boxing. I think a lot of people don't realize it, but you don't need an interim champion at all. A real champion is active and ready to fight at any time. There is no need for this. For one of these guys to be able to call himself the WBC champion later on is crazy. I refuse to recognize them. They won't go down in history as light heavyweight champions unless they fight Artur and beat him," said Scully.

It should be noted that the fight between our compatriot and Benavidez, for whom this will be his first appearance in the light heavyweight category, is scheduled to take place in June. Gvozdyk suffered his only defeat in his career at the hands of Beterbiev.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Russian Artur Beterbiev answered a question about his insult to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) and called our compatriot a coward.
