Usyk shows what he really thinks of Russia during Saudi Arabia show. Video
WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) left the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, before the fight between Dagestani Artur Beterbiev (21-1, 20 KOs) and Dmitry Bivol (24-1, 12 KOs) from St. Petersburg even began, as he clearly did not want to watch the Russian boxers. The cameras managed to capture the moment and the video went viral.
Despite the fact that Beterbiev and Bivol decided to take shelter under the flags of Canada and Kyrgyzstan after the full-scale invasion, respectively, both of these fighters are ethnic Russians.
As soon as the start of the fight was announced, the Ukrainian got up from his seat and, greeting the gathered audience, quickly left the hall.
The main fight of the evening ended with a victory for Bivol, who defeated Beterbiev to become the absolute light heavyweight champion. By doing so, Usyk made it clear that he was not pleased with the presence of Russian boxers on the international stage.
A few hours earlier, the WBO interim heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) of New Zealand defeated 31-year-old Congolese boxer Martin Bakole (21-2, 16 KOs), who was called Usyk's biggest rival, by knockout.
On the undercard, German boxer Agit Kabayel (26-0, 18 KOs) defeated Chinese boxer Zhilei Zhang (27-3-1, 22 KOs) to win the WBC interim heavyweight title, becoming the chief challenger to the main title held by Usyk. Oleksandr himself went up to the ring to award the winner.
