Rock legend Neil Young has announced a free concert in Ukraine
Legendary folk-rock musician Neil Young has announced his intention to hold a free concert in Ukraine. This information was posted on his official website, but the exact date and venue remain unknown.
It is expected that the performance will take place before June 18, when the scheduled part of the tour in Sweden starts. In his message, Young noted that negotiations are currently underway to organize the concert, and concluded the announcement with the words "Keep on Rockin' in the FREE WORLD".
"Neil Young and Chrome Hearts will open the upcoming European Love Earth Tour in Ukraine with a free concert for everyone! We are currently negotiating and will announce the details here in New York. Keep on rocking in the FREE WORLD," the band says on its website.
The musician probably made this decision after the recent visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United States. Young himself has repeatedly spoken out against the current American leader Donald Trump and strongly supported Ukraine, calling the war unleashed by Russia "the madness of an old dictator."
Neil Young began his career in the 1960s and gained worldwide fame as a solo artist and member of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. His albums Harvest, After the Gold Rush, and Rust Never Sleeps went down in rock history, and Young himself was nicknamed the "Godfather of Grunge" for his influence on a generation of alternative rockers.
He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, is a Grammy and Juno Award winner, and Rolling Stone ranked him 30th among the world's greatest guitarists in 2023.
