Alec Baldwin's wife reveals the actor had suicidal thoughts after Rust incident

The wife of actor Alec Baldwin, Hilaria, admitted that he was deeply depressed after the fatal shooting on the set of the movie Rust, which killed Ukrainian cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. It got to the point where the celebrity was ready to commit suicide.

As Hilaria Baldwin recalled in The Baldwins reality show, she received disturbing messages from her husband after her death. "I found these text messages the other day between us, you know, the day after. And [Alec] said he wanted to kill himself," the woman stated, People reports.

According to her, the actor felt "survivor's guilt" and kept returning to that day in his mind. "You're involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine. And so he goes back to that day, he wishes it were him. He would change places [with Hutchins] in a second," added Hilaria.

How the tragedy changed Baldwin's life

The shooting took place on set of the western Rust in New Mexico on October 21, 2021. Baldwin was rehearsing a scene when a pistol that was supposed to be loaded with dummy rounds accidentally went off. The shot fatally wounded cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

The actor later claimed that he did not pull the trigger and did not know that the weapon was loaded with live ammunition. However, an investigation showed that he fired the gun.

After the tragedy, Baldwin became the central figure in the trial. Initially, charges of involuntary manslaughter were dropped, but in January 2024 they were reinstated. He insisted on his innocence and proved it.

According to Hilaria Baldwin, the consequences of the events of 2021 are still there. "He'll never be the same. This has affected his health and his mental health tremendously the past few years. All of a sudden, he has started having heart problems. He's been hospitalized multiple times," she said.

The woman also recalled the time Alec fainted at home. "I was shaking him. It's hard sometimes. But, you know, hopefully we're in the hardest but the tail end of it," added Hilaria.
