"No one paid attention to my clothes until you asked": Oscar 2025 mocks controversy over Zelenskyy's White House suit
At the 97th Academy Awards, actor and comedian Adam Sandler appeared in his signature style of a sweatshirt and athletic shorts, causing a flurry of comments online. The actor's image was immediately compared to the style of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who, during the war, prefers utilitarian clothing even during official meetings. It was in this image that he appeared a few days before the Oscars 2025 at the White House.
Internet users jokingly called Sandler's choice "Zelenskyy's move," recalling the Ukrainian leader's recent visit to the White House, Mathrubhumi reports. It was there that a journalist asked Zelenskyy why he did not wear a suit, to which he replied: "I will wear a suit after this war is over."
The joke at the Oscars went even further – host Conan O'Brien made a sarcastic remark to the comedian, after which he allegedly apologized, and Sandler, according to the script, simply left. The video instantly went viral, and viewers were divided in their opinions: some considered it a spot-on satire, while others saw it as a hint of double standards in criticizing public figures.
"No one even thought about what I was wearing until you asked! You know what, Conan? I like the way I look because I'm a good person. I don't care what I wear or don't wear. Did my chic athletic shorts and sweatshirt offend you so much that you made fun of me in front of my peers?" Sandler addressed the host.
