Scandal of the day. The undefeated WBC, WBO and IBF champion disrupted the fight for the absolute title and may lose his belt
The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has ordered Russian light heavyweight Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) to provide evidence of his injury. On May 4, the WBC, WBO, and IBF champion announced that he had torn his meniscus and canceled his absolute title fight against WBA belt holder Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs), scheduled for June 1 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
"Within the next 10 days, Beterbiev must provide detailed medical evidence of the injury, the results of the study, the prognosis of recovery, and the doctor's opinion on when he will be cleared for active performances," the WBO said in a statement.
The organization clarifies that failure to comply with this order will result in Beterbiev being deprived of all the rights enshrined in the agreement.
"The committee will act following the WBO title draw regulations," the press release said.
Beterbiyev is a big fan of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and has repeatedly expressed his admiration for the dictator.
