"It may be the last": Usyk announces he's going to the 2024 Olympics and names his goal
Former absolute world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has left for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. According to our compatriot, in the French capital, he will seek a decision from the officials to include boxing in the program of the next tournaments.
Usyk wrote about this on his Instagram page. The 37-year-old boxer, who became an Olympic champion in 2012 in London, noted that the Olympics are of great importance to the sport, and winning the Games is literally the pinnacle for athletes.
"It's hard to accept that this Olympics may be the last time boxing competitions will be held. Their loss will be devastating for our sport, as new talents are emerging in amateur boxing. I believe that Olympic gold is the pinnacle of any athlete's achievement. That is why I will spend my time in Paris looking for ways to help. We are committed to preserving Olympic boxing for future generations by ensuring that it remains fair, transparent and truly Olympic," Usyk emphasized.
It should be noted that on the eve of the 2024 Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session excluded the International Boxing Association (IBA) from the list of recognized organizations, which caused hysteria among its Russian president, Umar Kremlin (real name Lutfulloyev). The Russian representative was illegally re-elected president of the IBA and imposed sanctions on Ukraine.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, world boxing legend Gennady Golovkin called on the national federation of Kazakhstan to withdraw from the shameful IBA.
