WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) supported Vasyl Lomachenko in his fight for the Moscow Patriarchate in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The Crimean resident liked a post on Instagram by his friend and godfather about the head of the UOC-MP, Onufriy.

Lomachenko posted a video with the metropolitan, in which he congratulates the faithful on the onset of Lent. Vasily signed the video with enthusiastic words.

On March 29, when the monks of the Moscow Patriarchate were to leave the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra for good, Usyk was spotted near the walls of the reserve. The boxer refused to comment on his presence.

Later, his wife Kateryna Usyk wrote why her husband came to the Lavra.

Earlier, Usyk stated that he would "take the side of the monks" in the event of the so-called seizure of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. He also called the head of the UOC-MP, Onufriy, "the father of our Orthodox Church, of peaceful Orthodox Ukraine".

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Lomachenko constantly posts propaganda materials on his Instagram account supporting the UOC-MP in the situation around the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

On March 26, the boxer showed the results of "militant atheism" by posting a video with footage of destroyed churches in the Ukrainian capital during World War II.

On March 23, Lomachenko posted a video harshly criticising Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for not accepting members of the synod of the Moscow-backed church.

On March 14, Vasyl Lomachenko published a sermon by Antony Pakanych. In the video, the UOC-MP Chancellor, Metropolitan of Boryspil and Brovary, speaks about the "lawlessness" that the Ukrainian state is "committing" against the monks of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

It should be noted that Lomachenko was included in the list of state traitors by the Chesno project. The reason for adding the boxer to the register was the publication on Instagram of a video of a sermon by Metropolitan Longin, a bishop of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, in which he accused Ukraine of an alleged war against the church and faith.
