The Trumps' connection to the British royal family: who they are friends with and who they scandalize
US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have close ties to the British royal family. However, while they maintain friendly relations with some members of the family, they openly dislike others.
The Trumps have many ties to Buckingham Palace. OBOZ.UA decided to find out with whom the first US couple is friends and with whom they have scandals.
In her memoirs, Melania Trump admitted that she corresponded with King Charles III. They met back in 2005. Their friendship resumed after Trump's state visit to Britain during his first presidential term. Then Queen Elizabeth II warmly received him.
Their official meeting took place on June 3, 2019. The Queen said that the United States and the United Kingdom share common values and expressed hope that the alliance between the two countries would guarantee the security and prosperity of both nations for decades to come.
In turn, Trump called Elizabeth II a great woman and her family "fantastic." Before the official banquet, he also met with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla.
"As we said goodbye to Her Majesty, we invited her to visit the United States for a return visit," Melania said, "She expressed her gratitude with a warm smile on her face. Unfortunately, Her Majesty was unable to visit us again before her death in 2022. We continue to maintain our friendship with the royal family and exchange letters with King Charles to this day."
Royal experts are confident that the current British monarch is interested in receiving Donald and Melania, although the date of their state visit has not yet been determined.
It is noteworthy that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were absent from the 2019 celebrations. Trump himself has repeatedly criticized the Sussexes for their treatment of the royal family. The US president said that Harry would not receive special treatment and privileges in America and accused him of betraying Queen Elizabeth II. He also did not rule out that the Prince of Sussex could be deported. In his documents, Harry might not have mentioned his experience with drugs.
"We're going to have to find out if they know anything about the drugs, and if he lied, they're going to have to take appropriate action," Trump argued. "I wouldn't defend him. He betrayed the Queen. This is unforgivable."
Moreover, the US president said that he had never been a fan of Meghan Markle. During his recent election campaign, he wished her husband success, as he would need it.
