During his visit to the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Ministers Mette Frederiksen of Denmark, Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway, Ulf Kristersson of Sweden and Petteri Orpo of Finland. One of the main topics of discussion was assistance to our country against the backdrop of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation.
"The focus is on continuing to support Ukraine, including key defense needs, financing Ukrainian production, strengthening Ukrainian air defense and our long-range capabilities. Also, the implementation of the points of the Victory Plan and preparations for the second Peace Summit," the head of state said on Telegram on October 29.
Meeting with the Prime Minister of Denmark
With Mette Frederiksen, Zelenskyy discussed the fourth Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit, including the countries' decision to finance Ukrainian production of weapons, ammunition, and long-range vehicles, following Denmark's example.
The key topic was the continuation of defense support and the supply of weapons and equipment from the already announced aid packages.
The parties paid special attention to sanctions against Russia, in particular, the activities of the enemy's shadow fleet and Russian ports in the Baltic Sea, which export more than 50% of the aggressor state's crude oil.
The President emphasized that Ukraine expects an appropriate response from its allies – not only Denmark but also all partners from the EU and G7.
The parties also discussed the participation of the North Korean military in the war (Zelenskyy spoke about his conversation with the President of the Republic of Korea), further implementation of the Peace Formula, and preparation for the second Peace Summit. It should be noted that Denmark is a co-chair of the working group on the implementation of the third point of the Formula, Energy Security.
Meeting with the Prime Minister of Norway
With Jonas Gahr Støre, the President discussed support on the battlefield, in diplomatic and financial spheres. The Norwegian prime minister announced his intention to increase aid. The agreement on providing assistance to Ukraine until 2030 is being considered by the Parliament.
The head of the Norwegian government emphasized that under the program, which runs until 2027, his country provided Kyiv with $1.5 billion a year. Under the new initiative, this amount will increase.
The conversation touched on defense cooperation with other partners, long-term security cooperation, the Victory Plan, and a joint strategy with partners to bring peace.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine's key needs are to strengthen its air defense and long-range capabilities.
A separate focus of the conversation was the deployment of DPRK troops to the war zone. Both Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Jonas Gahr Støre stated that it was important to give a joint decisive response to this challenge.
Meeting with the Prime Minister of Sweden
In the talks with Ulf Kristerson, special attention was paid to our Victory Plan. The Head of State noted that it was important to provide Ukraine with an invitation to join NATO and permission to use Western weapons against military targets deep in Russia. The parties discussed the details of Ukraine's position on the North Atlantic Alliance.
"I am grateful to Sweden for understanding our need to guarantee long-term security for Ukraine. We look forward to progress in strengthening Ukraine's air shield," the President said.
He discussed with Kristersson how to preserve and strengthen unity in Europe, taking into account all the challenges: both short-term and long-term.
Specific issues included funding for the Ukrainian production of long-range missiles and drones; and support for energy in winter. As Zelenskyy emphasized, Sweden is one of the most important donors of energy assistance to Ukraine.
Meeting with the Prime Minister of Finland
Among the topics discussed with Petteri Orpo were the strengthening of air defense, the supply of artillery shells, and investments in the production of Ukrainian long-range drones and missiles.
"I thank you and the entire Finnish people for your unity in supporting Ukraine. Thank you for all the aid packages we have received from Finland," Zelenskyy said.
He also noted Finland's leadership in the civil defense coalition for the construction of shelters. Special attention was paid to the Peace Formula and the new Peace Summit.
Zelenskyy thanked Finland for organizing and holding a thematic conference in Helsinki on the implementation of the eighth point of the Formula, "Environmental Security".
