Brazilian president says Zelensky and Putin are not ready for peace talks

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva complained that Ukraine and Russia are ignoring his proposals to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. In his opinion, neither Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky nor Russian President Vladimir Putin are ready for peace talks.

The Brazilian leader also criticized Ukraine's Western partners and permanent members of the UN Security Council for "not ending the war." Lula da Silva said this during a press conference for foreign media, Reuters writes.

According to the Brazilian president, his country wants peace in Ukraine, but the presidents of Ukraine and Russia are not ready to sit down at the negotiating table now.

"Neither Putin nor Zelensky is ready," Lula da Silva said.

He emphasized that the peace proposals Brazil is working on with several other "neutral countries" will be ready when Ukraine and Russia express a desire to start negotiations.

"Brazil's role is to try to get to a peace proposal with others when both countries want it," he said.

Lula da Silva also criticized Western countries supporting Ukraine in its defense against the aggressor, as well as the permanent members of the UN Security Council. The Brazilian president believes, that they are guilty of not stopping the war.

"The UN Security Council did not work. The US invaded Iraq and France, while England invaded Libya and now Russia. They all have the right of veto," he stated.

The publication recalled that Lula da Silva tried to form a group of neutral countries to start peace talks. His "peace efforts" caused a wave of criticism after the Brazilian president said that both the aggressor states Russia and the victim of aggression Ukraine are equally responsible for the war.

Earlier OBOZREVATEL reported that the President of Brazil suggested that Ukraine give Crimea to Russia to end the war in April this year. Ukraine must give up its territory "for the sake of peace in the world", he said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted to this "proposal". They emphasized that "Ukraine does not trade its territories".

Lula da Silva's position on Russia's war against Ukraine was also criticized in the United States. It was called inconsistent with neutrality.

The Brazilian president condemned Russia's "violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity" only after a wave of criticism.
