Johnson holds secret talks with Venezuelan president, discusses war in Ukraine - media

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a secret meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas. The conversation focused on the war in Ukraine and Venezuela 's possible arms supplies to Russia.

The British newspaper The Sunday Times writes about this, citing sources. According to their information, Johnson arrived in Caracas by private jet from the Dominican Republic, where he was on vacation with his family.

In total, he stayed in Venezuela for less than a day.

According to the sources, the former British prime minister discussed with Maduro the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as information about Venezuela's alleged supplies of weapons and military equipment to Russia.

Thus, in South America, Venezuela, which has long been in international isolation, is considered an ally of the Russian Federation.

Back in 2006, Moscow granted Caracas a loan of more than $17 billion. Venezuela spent a significant portion of this amount on the purchase of Russian weapons. The Russian Federation itself gets access to Venezuela's oil fields.

And on March 9, 2022, Maduro condemned Western sanctions against Russia, saying that it could allegedly unleash a nuclear war.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, earlier Maduro announced the deployment of troops on the east coast due to the "threat from Guyana". The dispute between the countries has escalated over the Essequibo territory, which is controlled by Guyana but which Venezuela considers its own.

In September, Maduro flew to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen "fraternal" relations with Russia, which are the "foundation" for Venezuela's "prosperous future."
