Zelenskyy: Russian drone that hit Chornobyl NPP was carrying 50 kg of explosives

The drone of the terrorist country of Russia, which hit the shelter of the destroyed power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant on February 14, carried 50 kg of explosives. Such actions are a crazy position of the Russian Federation.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Munich Conference. According to him, Russia is not interested in ending the war.

"It was a modified drone with 50 kg of explosives," the Ukrainian leader said.

He also noted that he had a conversation with the US President about nuclear energy.

"We recently spoke with Trump about nuclear energy and the largest plant in Europe – our Zaporizhzhia NPP, which is now occupied by Russians. And Russia responded by launching a drone at the Chornobyl sarcophagus. And this is not only madness, but the position of the Russian Federation," the guarantor emphasized.

He added that the country that launches such strikes does not seek peace and does not want to end the war it has started. Therefore, this can be seen as "a deeply symbolic step by Russia and Putin."

According to the Ukrainian leader, Ukraine has recently discussed the crucial role of nuclear energy in maintaining the country's vital functions.

"We are now preparing a project to expand our Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant – just the day before Munich, I was there at the plant – with the participation of American business. This project will strengthen the energy security not only of Ukraine but also of our entire region of Europe," Zelenskyy said.

As a reminder, on the night of February 14, a Russian drone hit the shelter of the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. A fire broke out at the facility and there is significant damage. The IAEA also confirmed the attack.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, after the enemy UAV hit the Chornobyl NPP shelter, radioactive substances may leak there. It should be noted that the first sarcophagus of the Chornobyl station, which was built immediately after the accident, will soon turn 40 years old.
