President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The head of the North Atlantic Alliance came on an official visit to Kyiv immediately after his appointment.

The main topics of the talks between Zelenskyy and Rutte were the prospects for Ukraine's membership in NATO and the Victory Plan. This was reported by an OBOZ.UA correspondent who attended the press conference.

According to Zelenskyy, Rutte's visit to Ukraine immediately after his appointment as NATO Secretary General demonstrates the West's priorities in supporting Ukraine. The President also emphasized that Rutte's visit shows that Ukrainians can count on the personal leadership of the NATO Secretary General.

"Our key goal is Ukraine's full membership in the Alliance. Ukraine can become the 33rd NATO country, and Ukrainians deserve it. Today we have discussed in detail the prospects for cooperation, key benchmarks that can strengthen us and our interaction," Zelenskyy said.

The Head of State added that he had discussed the Victory Plan with Rutte. Zelenskyy noted that the elements of this plan would strengthen our country.

"Today we discussed elements of the Victory Plan of our state that will strengthen Ukraine. We are now preparing for another meeting in the Ramstein format, and there we will also discuss this Victory Plan. I want to discuss it with our partners," the President of Ukraine said.

The President said that Ukraine is focused on getting an invitation to NATO. The country is now focusing on this and doing everything to achieve the desired result. In addition, the Head of State emphasized that Ukraine expects NATO to increase military assistance.

"We focus on this result, we will do everything to get (an invitation to NATO – ed.). The second is weapons, first of all, air defense, first of all, the decision that was made in Washington on the appropriate number of Patriot and SAMP-T systems," Zelenskyy said.

The president also raised the issue of the likelihood of allies destroying Russian missiles and drones. According to him, Ukraine's partners are not yet ready for such a step, but work is underway in this direction.
