The results of the US presidential election are crucial for the future of Ukraine and its membership in NATO. Depending on who wins the presidency, our country will face more positive and less positive scenarios for further developments.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with the Financial Times. He also told whether the partners had voiced a proposal to give up the territories occupied by Russia in exchange for joining NATO.

The newspaper writes that during the interview, Zelenskyy admitted that the outcome of next month's US presidential election will be decisive for the future of his country and plans to join NATO. While the Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, said that she would consider Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance in the future, her Republican rival, former US President Donald Trump, has sharply criticized military aid to Ukraine and assured that he would "end the war" immediately after being elected.

"I don't know what the offer will be for us after the [US] election. We see three different ways of developing events," the Ukrainian president said.

According to one scenario, support for Ukraine will continue, although, as Zelenskyy put it, our country's allies are still "afraid of some risks."

The outcome of the American vote is also of great importance for further developments.

"We see [two] different scenarios. Will it be more positive? Or less positive? To be honest, I don't know. And this is very sensitive for our people," the head of state said.

The President of Ukraine also said that Western officials, who are talking about the option of Kyiv giving up the territories occupied by Russia for NATO membership, have not consulted him on these proposals.

Earlier, Zelenskyy said that inviting Ukraine to NATO was the only way to stop the war. This is the first of the five points of Ukraine's Victory Plan, which was presented to Western allies.

Zelenskyy believes that even an invitation to join NATO for Ukraine would play a crucial role in forcing Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate.

"We cannot be very strong without receiving an invitation that will strengthen our diplomatic ways to end the war. This war will end when Putin is isolated and pushed to diplomacy by other partners," the president said.
