"We need to sit at the table equally": Zelenskyy names condition for starting talks with Russia

Zelenskyy calls on partners to strengthen Ukraine's position

Ukraine is not against starting talks with representatives of the Russian Federation. But first, Ukraine's position needs to be strengthened so that the conversation can take place "on an equal footing."

This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a telethon. He appealed to partners.

"If we have the appropriate weapons, even if everyone has positive support for the victory plan, this is already a step forward. You are already in a different situation," the President explained.

The Head of State noted that Ukraine was not against starting negotiations with Russia, but under one condition – it must have a strong position in these negotiations. He once again called on the partners to give Ukraine the necessary weapons.

"When you talk to the Russians on a particular platform, because our partners see them everywhere, we do not mind. We tell them: 'If you want us to talk to the Russians, then strengthen us. So that we sit at the table equally, and not with a chair somewhere off to the side," Zelenskyy emphasized.

In this context, the President also said that he did not see any serious risks in inviting Ukraine to NATO.

According to him, Ukraine's invitation to NATO will not be signed only by those countries that want to leave a place for dialogue with Russia.

"It will not be signed by those who want to leave space for dialogue with Russia. I think so," Zelenskyy said.

The head of state also commented on "peace initiatives" from other countries. He said that if they unite the world around one plan for victory, he supports them.

"There is a good opportunity in November – the G20 meeting. All these countries are there. We once proposed our formula in Indonesia at the G20 meeting. In November, the G20 will be in Brazil. We can take their proposals," the president said.
