"We are building up our capabilities": Zelenskyy talks about plans to limit Russia's ability to wage war against Ukraine. Video

Ukraine is increasing its capabilities to use long-range drones. This has already become a real strategic branch of the Ukrainian "defense industry" that will always work for the state, and Kyiv will continue to work to further limit Russia's ability to wage war.

The statement was made by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening video address on August 9. The video was traditionally published on the President's official Telegram channel.

In particular, the President noted that a rescue operation is underway in Kostiantynivka , Donetsk region, after a Russian strike on a regular supermarket. Dozens of buildings were damaged there: post offices, shops, and houses. More than 40 people are known to have been injured - all are being provided with the necessary assistance. Unfortunately, 14 people were killed, Zelensky said and expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

"Russia always knows where it is hitting with its missiles, and this is deliberate and purposeful Russian terror. Another war crime for which the occupier will be held accountable. He will be held accountable by the court and history, and he is already accountable to the strength of our soldiers. All those Ukrainians who are bringing justice, destroying the occupier and defending our positions. They are defending us in the way that is necessary to preserve Ukrainian independence and achieve our goals. And the main one is a just peace for all our people, real security for all our regions and communities as soon as possible," he said.

According to the President, this is possible only if Ukraine has the initiative in the war, our unity with the world is preserved, and everyone in Ukraine works for the state, common interests and security.

"I am grateful to all those who perform such tasks for Ukraine. Those who are fighting for Ukraine with real steadfastness and courage. I am proud of all our combat brigades! I would also like to thank our soldiers and our units that ensure the replenishment of the exchange fund - they take the occupier prisoner and thus help to free our people from Russian captivity. This is extremely important and has been particularly effective over the past three days. We have to return freedom to all our people who are now in Russian captivity," Zelensky said.

He also spoke about the results of the meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff.

"There was a thorough report by Chief Commander Syrsky. It was about our defense at the front - all areas. Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Kharkiv - all of them. There was also an analysis of our active actions. Today we also heard reports from the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine on the prospects for the near future, the opportunities and challenges faced by the terrorist state. We are working to further limit Russia's ability to wage this war," Zelenskyy said.

In particular, at the meeting of the Security Council, SBU Head Vasyl Malyuk read a report on Ukrainian long-range drones.

"Thank you guys, thank you for your accuracy! And we are building up this capacity. This is a real strategic defense industry, an industry that will always work for Ukraine. The commander of the Air Force also reported at the meeting on strengthening our air defense. Interior Minister Klymenko reported on the security preparations of our schools for the new school year. We are helping regional authorities, local authorities - communities, so that in all communities, where possible, children can go to school offline," the President said.

He also expressed gratitude to all the soldiers who have installed the Army+ app.

"In the first day, we had 40 thousand downloads of the app. The average time of use is also good. This application should be scaled up to all our Ukrainian Defense Forces - all commanders, all soldiers. It is really useful to remove paperwork and all unnecessary bureaucracy. Ukraine must be modern at all levels. Glory to Ukraine!" the Ukrainian leader said.
