"This is the most expensive story": Reznikov explained why Western partners are in no hurry to give combat aircraft
Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov believes that Western partners are delaying the transfer of modern fighters, such as F-16s, to the Ukrainian army because they will need to be kept in proper condition. In addition, it will be necessary to supply the planes with missiles and bombs.
The head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said this on Sunday, April 30, on the air of the national TV marathon "Edini novyny." According to Reznikov, this is "the most expensive story".
"It's not a cheap story. This is the most expensive story. They (western allies of Ukraine. - Ed.) consciously and responsibly want to reach the finish line of this marathon - the victory of Ukraine," he said.
The minister is convinced that Ukraine will still receive warplanes from the West.
"Everything that is impossible today will be possible tomorrow," he said.
Reznikov stressed that at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, it was difficult to imagine that Ukraine would receive modern air defense systems such as Iris-T, Samp-T, NASAMS or Crotale. Now, however, they are already protecting the skies over Ukraine.
"Therefore, the aircraft will also be the fourth generation plus-plus unambiguously," the head of the Ministry of Defense is convinced.
On the eve, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba spoke about progress in negotiations with allies to provide our country with F-16 fighter jets. According to him, several countries have already expressed their readiness to begin training Ukrainian pilots.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that our state cannot delay the de-occupation of its territories from the Russian invaders. That is why the AFU will not wait for partners to provide F-16 aircraft.
