Oleksii Yurievych Reznikov - Minister of Defense (since November 2021), former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Occupied Territories of Ukraine.

Short biography of Oleksiy Reznikov

Oleksiy Reznikov was born in Lviv, June 18, 1966.

He served in the airborne troops of the Soviet Union Army.

Reznikov received his higher education at the Lviv State University named after Franko. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1991.

Immediately after graduation he founded a brokerage firm called "Galitskie Securities", which he managed for the following years, and in 1994 he also received his Ukrainian lawyer's license.

In 1999 Mr. Reznikov occupied the post of Deputy Chairman of the Center for Ukrainian Legislation Development and remained in this position till 2002.

In 2000 Oleksii Reznikov acted as a founder of the law company "Praviss" .

From 2011 to 2014 Reznikov was a legal consultant at the Russian law firm Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev and Partners.

In 2018, he became a partner in the Asters law firm

What Alexey Reznikov is known for

In 2004, together with Sergey Vlasenko, he represented Viktor Yushchenko, as a candidate for President of Ukraine, in the court case of invalidation of the 2004 presidential elections in Ukraine.

In 2008 he was elected Deputy of the Rada from the European Party of Ukraine, and in 2014 was the Secretary of the City Council.

In 2010 Reznikov established a scholarship for Ukrainian law students.

Since 2015, he served as an advisor to the mayor of Kyiv.

He was awarded a personal pistol.

Since September 18, 2019, Alexey Reznikov is the representative of Ukraine in the trilateral contact group (Ukraine-Russia-OSCE) on the settlement of the conflict in Donbass, in the subgroup on political issues.

The new Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine 2020

In March 2020, it was reported that Oleksiy Reznikov may head the Ministry for the Reintegration of the Occupied Territories of Ukraine. And on March 4, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of Oleksiy Reznikov for the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Reintegration of the Occupied Territories of Ukraine.

Resnikov's resignation

On November 1, 2021, it became known that Reznikov wrote his resignation from the post of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories. The statement was written at his own request.

On November 3, the Verkhovna Rada voted for Reznikov's resignation.

Appointment to the Ministry of Defense

On November 4, Reznikov was appointed the new Minister of Defense of Ukraine in the Cabinet of Denis Shmygal.
