'These are complex processes': Danilov responds to critics of Ukrainian defense industry

Currently, the Ukrainian military-industrial complex is operating at "maximum capacity," despite the difficult conditions. However, it is "physically impossible" to completely cover its ammunition needs.

This was stated by Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, during an interview with Natalia Moseychuk. He noted that one of the main problems for the military-industrial complex is that Ukraine does not have powder production.

"When people start talking about their own defense industry, they do not understand what their own defense industry is. They think that someone is sitting there and doesn't want to do anything. Look, our own military-industrial complex is working at maximum capacity. The maximum we have today. This is not baking bread, these are complex processes..." Danilov said.

He noted that if Ukraine could fully satisfy all its needs on its own, we would do so. However, this is currently impossible to realize.

"It is physically impossible. And this is not about (partner - ed.) dependence. Let's take the issue of ammunition and shells. Those smart people realize that we do not have the production of gunpowder, which is worth its weight in gold today," the NSDC Secretary said.

Danilov noted that establishing the production of gunpowder in Ukraine is not an easy task that will take a lot of time.

"If someone tells me why we don't have gunpowder, I need to understand what kind of production it is. And you can't do it in a month, or two, or even ten. In today's world, it's mostly private business that does this. This is the way it should be. And we have a lot of private entrepreneurs who are part of this military-industrial production system and solve a lot of big problems," Danilov said.

He added that in today's environment, each country is mostly engaged in its own armament and has no desire to share resources with others.

Earlier, Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, said that Ukraine is actively establishing its own arms production. For a long time, this industry was not a priority, but now it has moved forward.
