President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Russian occupiers' offensive in the Kharkiv region may consist of several waves. The Head of State emphasized that after the first wave of the attack, the situation on this section of the front was under control.

Zelenskyy also added that Putin's invaders had not abandoned the idea of attacking Kharkiv. The president said this in an interview with AFP.

According to the president, the aggressor country Russia has not had much success in the Kharkiv region. At the same time, the head of state added that the situation should be assessed soberly and that it should be understood that the enemy is going deep into the territory of Ukraine.

"They have launched an operation. It could consist of several waves. There was the first wave, and the situation there is under control. Russian troops are five to ten kilometers from the border to the place where we stopped them... I will not say that this is a great success for Russia, but we must be sober and understand that they are going deep into our territory," the president said.

Zelenskyy said that Russia has not abandoned the idea of capturing Kharkiv. However, the occupiers realize that Ukraine will be able to deter future Russian attacks and inflict even greater losses on the enemy.

"They want to attack, but they realize that it is very difficult to attack Kharkiv. It is a big city, and they realize that we have forces that will fight for a long time. If we stop them, they will not die massively for Kharkiv," Zelenskyy said. .

In addition, the President assured that today Russia does not have the strength to launch a full-scale offensive against Kyiv, similar to the one they had at the beginning of the invasion.

As a reminder, senior NATO military commanders are confident that the Russian occupiers do not have sufficient forces to achieve a "strategic breakthrough" in Ukraine. At the same time, analysts are confident that through active actions in the Kharkiv region, the invaders will be able to stretch Ukrainian forces along a wide front and distract the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the state border.
