"Russians are fighting against people and life": Zelensky reacts to enemy strike on Mykolaiv

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the attack by Russian troops on Mykolaiv on February 16. Russian terrorists struck at the critical infrastructure of the city, leaving more than a hundred thousand civilians without heating in the middle of winter.

Such actions of the invader, who is fighting an unarmed population and trying to kill as many Ukrainians as possible, testify to the cunning of the enemy and its desire to continue the war until the complete destruction of the Ukrainian people and state. Zelensky wrote about this on his official Telegram channel.

"Today, more than a hundred thousand people in Mykolaiv were left without heating as a result of a Russian Shahed strike on the city's critical infrastructure. An ordinary Ukrainian city, ordinary civilian infrastructure. This has nothing to do with the fighting and the situation at the frontline, it proves once again that the Russians are fighting against our people, against life in Ukraine. And they are fighting viciously, without relenting. Those who really want to restore peace and are preparing for negotiations do not do this," the Head of State emphasized.

The President informed that repair crews in Mykolaiv were doing everything possible to return heat to the homes of Mykolaiv residents as soon as possible. He appealed to the world to help stop the daily terror and genocide of Ukrainians.

"We will continue to work together with our partners to strengthen our defense against such attacks. And all partners need to work together at all levels to prevent Russia from dragging out this war or making the threat to life permanent. We need to press Russia for peace. The recent Shahed strike on the shelter at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, this strike on Mykolaiv, and all other similar Russian strikes should lead to a strong reaction, to strong cooperation between all our partners, and to work together to force Russia to peace. I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine and Ukrainians!" Zelensky said.

As a reminder, on the morning of February 16, it became known that the Russian army had launched a massive attack on Mykolaiv. Destruction and fires were reported, as well as a wounded man.

Later, it became known that the enemy attacked Mykolaiv thermal power plant. A fire broke out there as a result of a targeted strike. More than 100,000 people were left without heat in the city.

During the night, air defense forces shot down 9 Shaheds over Mykolaiv region.
