"Preparations are coming to an end": Reznikov speaks about the Ukrainian Armed Forces counter-offensive and names key factors

Oleksiy Reznikov assesses the readiness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for a counter-offensive

Minister of Defence of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov spoke about the current stage of preparations for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' counter-offensive. According to him, in a global sense, Ukraine is ready for it.

The minister said that Ukrainian forces are waiting for favourable weather conditions and a decision from the command to launch a counterattack. Reznikov said this during a press conference.

He also added that the military needs time to master the latest weapons supplied by foreign partners.

"The preparations are coming to an end, and in addition to weapons and equipment, our military must master them. We have received very modern systems, especially in terms of the armoured fist. I remind you that in addition to the tank coalition, which primarily includes Leopard 2+ Challenger, Leopard 1 will arrive a little later," Reznikov said.

The minister noted that Ukraine is still waiting for Abrams tanks to arrive, but they will not take part in the upcoming counter-offensive.

There is also equipment on which Ukrainian soldiers are completing training programmes. Their crews will arrive at the designated locations when it is determined by the Commander-in-Chief.

"In a global sense, we are ready in a high percentage mode, then the question is up to the General Staff, the command. As soon as it is God's will, the weather and the decision of the commanders, we will do it," the minister said.

Earlier, it was reported when Ukraine would extend the mobilisation and whether the draft would be strengthened due to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' counter-offensive. The current draft of men liable for military service lasts until 20 May 2023.

As a reminder, after the Russian attack on Uman, Dmytro Kuleba called for Ukraine to receive F-16 fighter jets. He noted that innocent Ukrainians, including children, are victims of Russian shelling.
