Defense forces attacked the Russian patrol ship "Sergei Kotov"

On the night of March 5, the Russian patrol ship Sergei Kotov was sunk in the temporarily occupied Crimea. This vessel joined the Russian Black Sea Fleet only in 2022.

Moreover, the Ukrainian Defense Forces had been hunting for this warship for quite some time, and this was not the first attempt to sink the vessel. OBOZ.UA will tell you more about the patrol ship "Sergei Kotov".

According to the DIU, the attack on the patrol ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet "Sergei Kotov" was carried out by a special unit called "Group 13". This operation took place within the framework of cooperation between the DIU and the Ukrainian Navy with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

As a result of the attack by Magura V5 maritime drones, the Russian Project 22160 ship "Sergei Kotov" sustained damage to the stern, starboard, and port sides. The attack took place in Ukraine's territorial waters, near the Kerch Strait.

The value of the sunken ship is approximately $65 million. Approximately 80 people could have been on board. The attack resulted in deaths and injuries. Part of the crew was able to evacuate, so the exact information is being clarified. According to the GUR, the occupants called at least 10 ambulances to the land territory.

What is known about the ship?

"Sergei Kotov" is the newest patrol ship of the 22160 project of a series of 4 patrol boats. It was launched at the Zatoka shipyard in January 2021. Sea trials began at the end of October 2021, and only on July 30, 2022, the ship joined the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
