President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that Russian occupiers have launched a counteroffensive in Kharkiv region. According to the head of state, the Ukrainian military was aware of such plans.

Zelensky made the statement during a joint press conference with Slovak President Zuzana Chaputova in Kyiv, an OBOZ.UA correspondent reports. According to him, the invaders were met by Ukrainian combat brigades and artillery fire in the Kharkiv sector.

"Russia has launched a new wave of counteroffensive actions in this direction. Ukraine met them there with our troops, brigades, and artillery," he said.

According to Zelenskyy, the military command was aware of the enemy's plans for a new offensive and had calculated the forces to respond to the attack.

"It is important that they can increase and pull up more forces in this direction, this is a fact. But our military and military command calculated the forces to meet the enemy with fire," the president said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the morning of May 10, Russian troops tried to break through the Ukrainian defense on the border in Kharkiv region. Civilians were evacuated from Vovchansk and neighboring villages.

According to OBOZ.UA sources, enemy activity was recorded in the villages of Strilecha, Pylyna and Borysivka in Kharkiv district, as well as Gatyshche in Vovchansk district.

The Ministry of Defense reported that the enemy tried to break through the defense line under the cover of armored vehicles at about five in the morning. As of 1 p.m. on Friday, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled the attack, and fighting of varying intensity continued.

According to journalist Yuriy Butusov, the enemy has created a foothold for further actions but does not have the forces to quickly launch a large-scale offensive on Kharkiv.
