Locationally lost drone: what the term Ukrainians often see in Air Force reports on Russian attacks means
Ukrainians can often see "locationally lost" Shahed drones in Air Force reports on Russian attacks. This may mean, among other things, that the Shahed was either of poor quality or under the influence of electronic warfare.
The drone may also run out of fuel, causing it to crash. This was stated by Ilia Yevlash, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in an interview with the Center for Countering Disinformation.
"There are a lot of locationally lost drones now. And everyone is asking what it means. In fact, it can be anything from poor quality and production of a drone," he said.
Also, Shahed drones can be locationally lost after falling under the influence of electronic warfare. In addition, drones may crash in different places after they run out of fuel, and it is not always possible to find them immediately.
"They fall quite often into some water bodies and fields. We constantly warn people not to try to get rid of them on their own. If you find them, report to the relevant services," Yevlash said.
He added that the drones launched by the occupants have different warheads.
"Of course, if there are 120-140 of them, our air defense tries to shoot down most of them, but some are still lost. It is just a dot on the radar that eventually disappears," noted the spokesman.
Yevlash also said that in addition to Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, Russians are also using cheap alternatives - the so-called "decoy drones" to deplete the Ukrainian air defense system.
As reported, on the night of November 29, Russia attacked Ukraine with 132 kamikaze drones. The defenders of the sky shot down 88 targets, and dozens of UAVs were suppressed by means of electronic warfare.
Thus, 41 drones were locationally lost due to active countermeasures, while one more returned to Russia.
