Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Kroo announced the allocation of 200 million euros for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine.
Belgium has pledged €200 million to the Czech initiative to provide 800,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine. The ammunition will be purchased outside of Europe to provide more support to the Ukrainian army as soon as possible.
This was announced by Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo. He noted that additional ammunition will arrive in the coming weeks.
"We will never be able to match the sacrifices that Ukraine makes every day. But we can give President Zelensky what he asked for - more ammunition to fight back against the Russian aggressor. Belgium will finance the Czech initiative with 200 million euros. The additional ammunition will arrive in the coming weeks," Alexander de Croo wrote on the social network X on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported that the Netherlands would allocate more than €100 million to purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in countries around the world. This is in support of the Czech initiative. He announced this decision after a meeting in Paris with heads of state and government from a wide group of countries to support Ukraine.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, two EU member states - France and the Netherlands - supported the plan to purchase ammunition for Ukraine outside Europe. The EU countries are joining forces to raise $1.5 billion for the emergency purchase of ammunition.
As a reminder, Czech President Petr Pavel said that Prague had found 800,000 pieces of artillery ammunition abroad that it could transfer to Ukraine. It is about half a million 155-mm shells and another 300,000 122-mm shells.
