"Why should anyone be better?" Russian Olympic champion outraged at Kharlan's admission to the Olympics and called on Russia to leave the IOC
Three-time Olympic champion Galina Gorokhova is furious over the admission of Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan to the 2024 Games in Paris after the scandal at the World Championships in Milan. The former foilist also called on Russia to withdraw from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Gorokhova said this in a commentary to the propaganda news agency TASS. The nine-time world champion accused the IOC of advocating the organization's "gentle attitude towards Ukrainian athletes" and of allegedly interfering in the activities of international federations.
"The IOC favors a more gentle attitude towards Ukrainian athletes. However, everyone should be equal, why should someone be better? Why does it interfere in these matters? There are federations that live by their own rules. However, the IOC starts to interfere, to demand revision, and I see no point in fighting with it - whatever team they give, they vote the way they vote, there is no logic there. We should leave the IOC altogether, finish the drawing of wooden medals and argue who should be admitted and who should not. There is nothing to do there," said Gorokhova.
Recall, Olga Kharlan refused to shake hands with Russian Anna Smirnova after the match 1/32 finals of the World Cup. This infuriated the Ukrainian opponent, who made a real circus - she brought a chair to the track and refused to leave the platform.
The representative of the Russian Federation filed a protest against the result of the duel, which was rejected. Propaganda channel "Match TV" published a photo of the denunciation that Smirnova wrote on Olga. Our saberist herself noted that she was simply killed by the decision to exclude her from the tournament.
As reported OBOZREVATEL, the Ukrainian national fencing team led by Olga Kharlan entered the top-4 of the World Championships in Milan.
