"Visible farce": Russia prepares to boycott Olympics 2024, claiming responsibility "before the country and history"

Russian athletes who agree to the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) demands for admission to competitions "will bear moral responsibility to their comrades, their country and history. Athletes from the aggressor country are at a point where a decision must be made regarding participation in tournaments, including the 2024 Olympics.

Stanislav Pozdnyakov, president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), wrote about this with pathos and disdain for European colleagues in his Telegram-channel. He called the terms of Russia's return to international competition a real farce and hinted at a future rejection of the Games in Paris.

"One can clearly see the very farce that is the parameters of the "return" of the Russians and Belarusians to the international arena. The Russian Olympic family is facing a moment of difficult choices, to which it is being pushed by its "colleagues from Lausanne. Olympic solidarity is one of the main principles of Olympism. I am sure that all members of our sporting community are fully committed to this principle, but those who interpret it too loosely are likely to incur moral responsibility before their comrades, the country and history," said Pozdnyakov.

Recall that the IOC recommended international federations to suspend from competition Russian athletes related to the Russian army and security forces, as well as team sports.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the International Fencing Federation (IFE), which previously allowed Russians to perform at its tournaments, suspended three Olympic champions from Russia.
