Usyk's action at the boxing match in Saudi Arabia caused hysteria in Russia. Video
The demarche of WBC, WBA, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, provoked a violent reaction in the Russian media. The Ukrainian left the Kingdom Arena before the fight between Dagestani Artur Beterbiev (21-1, 20 KOs) and Dmitry Bivol (24-1, 12 KOs) from St. Petersburg, not wanting to watch the fight between boxers from the Russian Federation.
Cameras captured this moment, and the video quickly spread online. The Ukrainian left the hall at the moment when the fighters were announced. Although Beterbiev and Bivol fought under the flags of Canada and Kyrgyzstan, they remain ethnic Russians.
Russia's main propaganda outlet, RIA Novosti, threw a tantrum, calling for clown reactions to the Ukrainian's action.
Ordinary fans from the Russian Federation did not stand aside and began to insult the Ukrainian champion in every possible way in the comments.
A few hours earlier, 31-year-old Congolese boxer Martin Bakole (21-2, 16 KOs), who was called the most serious threat to Oleksandr Usyk, was defeated by the "interim" WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) of New Zealand. The fight at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ended in a technical knockout.
And on the undercard, German boxer Agit Kabael (26-0, 18 KOs) defeated Chinese boxer Zhang Zhilei (27-3-1, 22 KOs) to win the WBC interim heavyweight title, becoming the main challenger to the main title held by Usyk. Oleksandr himself came up to the ring to award the winner.
