One of the most popular sports publications in Russia decided to please its subscribers with a biographical article about Oleksandr Usyk in the run-up to the three fights for the absolute heavyweight championship. The authors of sports.ru titled the article "Doctors gave him little chance": Usyk almost died of pneumonia and spent a year in the hospital".

The article presents well-known facts about the childhood of our compatriot. It is said that Usyk's family is from the Chernihiv region, where Oleksandr went through a serious ordeal that completely changed his worldview.

In second grade, Usyk caught a bad cold and bilateral pneumonia. Doctors did not give a positive prognosis, and the 10-year-old was preparing to die. After meeting with the priest, Usyk changed - he started training a lot and believed in God.

After his football career didn't work out, Oleksandr began to achieve great success in boxing.

"There were such competitions - with a score of, for example, 25:0 in favor of Usyk. He made himself a man. He just took it and did it. When he started winning, and he started winning so confidently that it was clear that he would win the championship," sports.ru quoted Usyk's coach Sergey Lapin as saying.
