Ukrainian national volleyball team won the 2024 Olympics qualification but lost the chance to qualify directly for the Olympics
Ukraine's men's volleyball team defeated Qatar in the 5th round of qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games. The match in Brazil ended with a score of 3:1 (25:22, 27:29, 26:24, 25:22).
The match was not going well for Ugis Krastins' team. Qatar seized the initiative from the first minutes, making a 5-1 run. Ukrainians were catching up for half of the set, equalizing the score in the 28th draw only (14:14). The fight was equal until the last seconds when our compatriots proved to be more confident.
The second game turned out to be a mirror image of the first. Ukraine was already leading in the opening game, but lost its advantage, giving the victory to the Qataris.
After that, the Ukrainian team concentrated and did not give the opponent a chance, winning the third and fourth sets.
This was the second victory for the Yellow and Blue team in the tournament, but after Germany's defeat by the Czech Republic, our compatriots lost their chances of taking second place in the group, which gave them the right to play in the 2024 Olympics.
At the same time, Ukraine, which is ranked 16th in the world, can qualify for the Games based on its ranking. To improve their chances, Ukrainian volleyball players need to win the next two qualifying matches against the Czech Republic and Germany.
The qualifying position for the Games in Paris will be determined after the end of the current Olympic qualifying tournament.
