"Three times": Wilder made unexpected comments about the fight with Usik
Former world champion Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) unexpectedly accused Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) of constantly avoiding a face-to-face confrontation. The Bronze Bomber, as the American boxer is called, said that they allegedly tried to organize his fight with the Ukrainian three times.
Wilder said this in an interview with the Es News YouTube channel, Essentially Sports writes. According to the U.S. representative, Usyk was supposed to be in the audience during one of Deontay's fights, and then get up in the ring, where they planned to announce a superfight in the king's division.
"We had to organize the fight three times. The world doesn't know it, but the boxing business does. If you go back to one of my fights, you'll see that Usyk was supposed to be in it. But he didn't show up. I understand why guys don't want to risk fighting me. I understand that I have absolute power. I can get rid of anyone at any time. I just wish these top guys would move forward," Wilder said.
We would like to remind you that Oleksandr Usik is scheduled to fight the British Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24) in his next fight. The title of absolute world heavyweight champion will be at stake. The fight was originally scheduled to take place on December 23, but was postponed.
The media named the date of the confrontation. Journalists also claimed that the British boxer was threatened with a $240 million lawsuit if he refused to fight Usyk by the end of the year. The Ukrainian himself admitted how the postponement of the fight affected him.
As OBOZ.UA reported, Oleksandr Usik did not disclose his tactical plan for the fight with Tyson Fury. In addition, it became known that the Ukrainian is being set up for a fight against the Briton. Also, bookmakers have dramatically changed their quotes for the confrontation.
