"This Macron is very strange": Russian Olympic champion says Ukraine should stop defending itself

Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova cynically criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for calling for a ceasefire during the 2024 Games. The State Duma deputy expressed the absurd idea that Russia is not the aggressor and that Ukraine should demand a ceasefire.

Zhurova said this in an interview with Sport24. The former figure skater, who won gold at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, Italy, called the desire to establish peace meaningless, and accused Macron of wanting to confront Russian war criminals and plans to do so.

"His proposal sounds very ridiculous when our athletes were not allowed to participate in this Olympics. It's a bit strange, isn't it? Why should we respond to the call of a person who, a couple of weeks ago, called for the deployment of third-country troops to the front of the special military operation (as the Russian Federation shamefully calls the war against Ukraine - ed.) It all looks hypocritical and strange. Why can't Macron address this request to Ukrainians? This Macron is very strange, his words really contradict each other," Zhurova said.

Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin commented on Macron's words in an equally hypocritical manner. He claimed that Russia allegedly "wants to build good neighborly relations between the two states," and called it "utter cynicism" to demand that Russia stop killing Ukrainians.
