The Russian was knocked out in the championship fight at the Joshua-Ngannou show
Uzbekistan's Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 9 KOs) inflicted the first defeat of his career on Russia's Magomed Kurbanov (25-1, 13 KOs) and became the world middleweight champion. The 29-year-old boxer won the vacant belt with an early victory on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua-Francis Ngannou fight.
Madrimov was considered the clear leader of the duel, as he confirmed in the ring. The Uzbek seized the initiative from the first minutes of the fight, offering his opponents the highest pace. Israel acted perfectly both at a distance and in close combat, not giving the Russian a single minute's rest.
In the fifth round, Madrimov picked up the pace and Kurbanov just sailed. 50 seconds before the bell, the Uzbek boxer pinned his opponent against the ropes and began to shower him with punches to the head and body. Since Kurbanov did not respond to his opponent's attacks, the referee was forced to stop the fight.
Thus, Madrimov won the world title in his 11th fight in the professional ring. And for Kurbanov, the fiasco was the first in his career after 25 wins in a row.
