Mamiashvili says Russians should not boycott the Olympics

The head of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, did not believe that the head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, called the Russian tennis players who will compete at the Olympics a "team of foreign agents." He actually criticized the official for his attempts to condemn the athletes, urging them "not to turn into idiots."

Mamiashvili said this in an interview with Sport24. The Seoul '88 Olympic champion opposed calls for a complete boycott of the Paris Games by the Russians as it divides the society of the aggressor country. The former athlete pompously added that "the enemy will be defeated, and victory will be ours."

"I read Pozdnyakov's words, and I don't believe he could have said that. Let's not confuse good and bad and turn into idiots. It's not about participation but about the won right to participate in the Olympics. They have the right to discuss it. Once the roads to the Olympics are open, the sports communities should sit down and weigh their civic position against the number of years it took to get the chance to compete at the Olympics. There is no need to rush. The enemy will be defeated, and the victory will be ours!" Mamiashvili said.
