Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova has expressed confidence that Russian athletes will be returned to international tournaments immediately after the end of the war in Ukraine. At the same time, the State Duma deputy spoke about a "peace agreement" that sports organizations are waiting for.

This Zhurova said in an interview with the propaganda channel "Match TV". According to the former speed skater, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is under "political pressure" and "peace talks" will allow Russians to compete at the 2024 Olympics with national symbols and anthem.

"Everything depends on the political pressure on the IOC. If it continues - we will not see the flag, if there are peace talks - we will get it back tomorrow. They postpone this decision, realizing that as soon as the situation in Ukraine is resolved, everything will go back to normal. Everything depends on a lot of factors: what the situation will be closer to the tournament, what will happen with the special operation (as Russia shamefully calls the war in Ukraine - ed.) and the situation in Ukraine, whether there will be a peace agreement. So far, a number of federations have admitted Russian athletes so that we could hypothetically pass the qualifiers," Zhurova said.
