Russia suspended from selection for the 2024 Olympics

Russian and Belarusian athletes were not admitted to the Asian Games-2023, which representatives of aggressor countries wanted to use as a loophole to get to the Olympics-2024 in Paris. Such a decision was taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
This was stated by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in a commentary to The Indian Express. In turn, the IOC explained that the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the competition, which starts on September 23 in Hangzhou, China, is impossible for various technical reasons.
"The concept of participation of athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports at the Asian Games in 2023 was considered and discussed at the Olympic Summit in December 2022, but turned out to be unfeasible for technical reasons," the IOC said. In turn, the OCA emphasized that it was the decision of the IOC, not Asian sports officials.
Earlier, the OCA agreed to allow a maximum of 500 athletes from the two countries to the Asian Games-2023 to qualify for the Olympic Games.

Recall, a year before the start of the Olympic Games 2024, July 26, the IOC did not send Russia and Belarus an invitation to the competition. In addition, the media revealed the IOC plans to admit the Russians to the Games as a refugee team.
As reported OBOZREVATEL, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was outraged by the suspension and the conditions of admission of representatives of the aggressor country at international competitions.
