Revenge of the Russian Federation: boxer from Georgia is disqualified because he could not be bribed by Russians
The secretary general of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC), Russian Kirill Shchekutiev, has announced the inevitable disqualification of Georgian Lasha Guruli after he accused Russian representatives of attempting to bribe him at the continental championship. The official with the loud words about "clean sport" has already called the athlete guilty of the scandal.
Interestingly, Shchekutiev made this statement on the air of the propaganda TV channel Match TV, making no secret of the fact that Gurulia's fate does not depend on an objective investigation. The Russian was also outraged that the Georgian boxer refused to be photographed alongside his rivals from the aggressor country at the award ceremony.
"The EUBC will be investigating the Georgian boxer's statements about the attempt to give him money, as well as his unsportsmanlike behavior during the award ceremony. I would like to note that he behaved the same way during the World Championships in Tashkent. This once again shows him not as an athlete, but as a blogger and showman. We are for clean sport. Therefore, most likely, the EUBC ethics commission will decide to impose the most serious sanctions on him, up to and including disqualification," said Shchekutiev.
It should be noted that the EUBC is part of the International Boxing Federation (IBA), which is headed by Russian Umar Kremlev (real name Lutfulloyev). Interestingly, Shchekutiev succeeded Kremlev as Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation.
