"Pseudo-patriot. Playing the unhappy one": Russian Olympic champion outraged by Kharlan's admission to 2024 Olympics

Yana Yegoryan, a two-time Olympic fencing champion, could not bear the fact that Olga Kharlan was allocated a special quota for the 2024 Games in Paris. The Russian woman was furious at the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and literally started spitting bile at the Ukrainian sabre fencer, who was unfairly disqualified from the World Championships.
In a commentary to the propaganda TV channel Match TV, Yegoryan, in a fit of temper, called Kharlan a pseudo-patriot of Ukraine and accused her of acting for selfish purposes. The representative of the aggressor country expressed the absurd idea that the Ukrainian got to the Games in Paris without "doing anything for it".
"Kharlan is promoting herself as best she can, pretending to be poor and unhappy as much as possible. It's cool, she's great, she's achieved the fact that she's going to the Olympics without doing anything for it. I think that's what she was trying to do, to gain popularity and notoriety through this situation. A pseudo-patriot living in Italy. When it comes to Kharlan, we have no principles. And when it comes to Russian athletes, it's different," Yegoryan said.
It will be recalled that Kharlan refused to greet Anna Smirnova in the 1/32 finals of the 2023 World Cup, after which the Russian staged a real circus, refusing to leave the track. She filed a protest against the outcome of the duel, which was rejected. It is worth emphasising that the Russian representative does not meet the criteria of a neutral athlete, openly supporting the Russian Armed Forces.
Kharlan was disqualified from the World Championships, and her punishment was cancelled on 28 July. Our sabre fencer herself said that the decision to exclude her from the tournament simply killed her.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that Kharlan had crossed all boundaries by refusing to congratulate her rival from the aggressor country. And the president of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, accused the IOC of showing "sensitivity and delicacy" to the Ukrainian.
