The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, said that many countries will not recognize the results of the Olympics because there will be virtually no athletes from Russia in Paris. In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Russian athletes be allowed to participate only in a neutral status and under strict conditions.
The Summer Olympics in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
"I think that the Games and the results will not be seen as fair by many countries due to the absence of our strongest athletes. I would like to emphasize that the Olympic movement is not equal to the IOC. We will appreciate and promote the ideals of Pierre de Coubertin," TASS quoted Pozdnyakov as saying.
Pozdnyakov's pompous speech about Russia's greatness and irreplaceability provoked a strong reaction from his compatriots.
"A statesman with a sporting background cannot keep talking this kind of crap. He should be ashamed of himself", "Imperialism (stupidity) knows no borders for Russian officials, we need tougher sanctions against them to howl at the moon", - they write in the comments.
Users are convinced that the whole world won't really give a damn whether Russia is at the 2024 Games or not.
"So, as a sign of solidarity, most likely 80% of the world's countries will boycott the Olympics in Paris," "Most athletes in the world seriously consider only the results of the Olympics," users mock.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, athletes from Russia and Belarus, who received Olympic licenses to compete at the Games in Paris this year, will be re-checked for compliance with the conditions of admission to the tournament. It will be conducted with the participation of unnamed independent organizations.
