"Powerful" IOC response: Russian Olympic champion suggests Russians play for "some Syria" at the 2024 Olympics
Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov has categorically opposed the idea of Russian athletes competing at the 2024 Games in Paris in a neutral status. At the same time, as an alternative, he suggested that representatives of the aggressor country should participate in teams friendly to Russia, in particular, "some Syria".
This opinion Fetisov expressed in an interview with the propaganda publication "Komsomolskaya Pravda". The State Duma deputy noted that the move would be a response to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which is considering Russia's admission to the Games as a refugee team.
"Today, I think we should be there with the flag and the anthem. Or playing for some Syrian team all together. In any sport. And cheer for that team. Well, it should be a calculated option, not reacting to new statements by the IOC - give or not give the status. This is now a very complicated story. You can imagine: our athlete arrives in a team of refugees. What is this? I really don't understand," Fetisov said.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov became a laughing stock online after he succinctly commented on the IOC's refusal to invite Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympics with other countries on July 26.
As reported OBOZREVATEL, former world heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev called to ban the IOC in Russia.
