"Politics is destroying his legacy": Bellew shocked by situation with Usyk-Fury fight

Bellew speaks out about the disruption of the Usyk-Fury fight

Former world heavyweight champion Tony Bellew has called Tyson Fury's (33-0-1, 24 KOs) refusal to fight Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) this year shocking. The former boxer from Liverpool noted that his compatriot is obliged to take part in the biggest fights.

Bellew said this in an interview with the iFL TV YouTube channel. He expressed confidence that the Gypsy King, as the Manchester native is called, is negatively affected by Tyson's underhanded games and arrogance, and also called Fury a very good boxer.

"It's a shock. A sad shock. I don't know what to say. I just want to see Tyson in the biggest fights that can only happen once in a lifetime for guys in the heavyweight division. He's a great and amazing boxer. Politics or ego is destroying his legacy. Because after everything that happened, he will be remembered as a guy who fought opponents two or three times. This is not what I would like to see. I only wish him well. I like what he's fighting for. I think he's a good guy. I hope that he will make his way and sort everything out," Bellew said.

It will be recalled that on 26 August, Usyk is due to make a mandatory defence in a fight against Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs). Saudi Arabia intended to organise the fights Usyk - Fury and Anthony Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs) - Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) on the same night. The media published the boxers' fees for the grand show. At the same time, Anthony has already confirmed his fight against Deontay.

The Ukrainian boxer said that he was going to arrange a fight with the Briton. Oleksandr also accused his opponent of lying and then turned to the Gypsy King.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Tyson Fury unexpectedly changed his rhetoric in his statements about Oleksandr Usyk, wishing him good luck. And former world champion Johnny Nelson blasted the British champion for fighting the Ukrainian. For his part, the legendary Hasim Rahman expressed confidence that Usyk would knock out Fury.
